Pyrethrins and pyrethroids

Pyrethrins and pyrethroids are insecticides used very frequently in both agricultural and home pest control.  Generally they are less toxic than the cholinesterase inhibitors, but nevertheless can cause illness with direct contact.  Safety problems can occur when foggers containing pyrethrins or pyrethroids are used near sources of ignition (e.g., pilot lights or fireplaces).
